Brief description: On 23rd April 2002 in the
historical place of Baku, Icheri
Sheher, beside Shirvanshahs' Palace, the
architectural monument of the
15th century on International day of books and
author's right celebrated
annually in the whole world by decision of
UNESCO inauguration of the
first private Museum of Miniature Books in the
world took place.
Exposition of the Museum - 3750 miniature books
published in 60
countries of the world - have been placed in 27
showcases. Totally, the
book fund of the Museum comes to over 5300 books,
have been
collected by Zarifa Salahova for more than 20
years. Such sections of the exposition as "Miniature
books published in Azerbaijan"
prominent for its "Contract of the Century"
beautiful leather-bound edition
with H.Aliyev's medal, Baku, 1998; "Rarities in
miniature books" containing
"History of England", London, 1815; "Religious
literature in miniature books";
"Pushkiniana" comprising eternal issue of
A.S.Pushkin's poem "Yevgeniy
Onegin", St. Petersburg, 1837 are considered to
be of special interest.
Miniature books published in Azerbaijan, Russia,
USA, Japan, England,France, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia,
Hungary, Cuba,Switzerland and the former USSR republica have
been represented in the
exposition. 2-10 mm format miniature books are
extremely interesting for
visitors, such as three books "Birth Stone", "Zodiac
signs and their symbols",
"Flower language", Tokyo, Toppan publishing
house, 1979, 2x2 mm format,lamb leather-bound, consisting of 16 pages each,
between 50 and 100
marks on each page, one of them illustrated. The
crumbs are equipped with
their own magnifying glasses.
The fund of the Museum is being permanently
filled by interesting novelties
and dedicatory editions as well.
