Brief
description: The aim of the
institution is to present consecutive stages of
struggle for independence of Azerbaijan people,
covering the period from prehistory to the 20th
century, as well as the most important events in
their cultural and historical life. The
exposition of the museum consists of 6 halls,
where the exhibits telling about the most
important historical moments, events and
persons. Discovered in the archaeological
excavations, various household goods,
diversiform ceramic wares, implements, stone and
agathic beads, decorations and implements of the
Bronze Age reflect the ancient history of
Azerbaijan. Such symbols of ADR (Azerbaijan
Democratic Republic) as stamps, banknotes,
copies of documents of the state structures as
well as sketches of orders and medals instituted
at the time of ADR are demonstrated in the
museum exposition. Materials relating to the
national liberation movements taken place in the
first half of the 20th century in Southern
Azerbaijan, repressions carried out in
1920-1950, participation of Azerbaijan in World
War II in 1941-1945, struggle against Armenia
related with its territorial claims for Upper
Garabagh and against Armenian terrorism,
tragedies of 20 January and Khojaly are
displayed in the next halls. Important changes
in public life, foreign policy, economics,
educational system, cultural life, sport and
army taken place in Azerbaijan for the last
years are widely illustrated in the 6th museum’s
hall. |
